Taman Ayun temple is a Royal Temple of Mengwi and located at Mengwi village, Badung district. It is about 18 kilometers from city of Denpasar, 8 kilometers from Ubud or about 1.5 journey from the airport. The temple is surrounded by fish ponds and beautiful park. The architecture of the temple is the combination of Balinese and Chinese style. Taman Ayun temple means beautiful garden. There is Bale Kulkul at the second yard, where we could see the view of the surrounding.

According to the papyrus Chronicle of the Mengwi, the temple was built on 1634 AD by I Gusti Agung Putu or known as I Gusti Agung Made Agung, The king of Mengwi. According to Astadewata, the special God is worshiped in Taman Ayun Temple is the God in manifestation as a God of Wisnu which his palace located in top of Mangu mount. Taman Ayun Temple is also as family temple for the ancestor of the royal family.

The commemoration of temple birthday will take place every 210 days, on day called Anggara Kasih (According to Balinese Calendar), the Tuesday of the week Medangsia of the Balinese Pawukon calendar.
