Besakih Temple

Besakih Temple is Mother Temple, located in the village of Besakih, District of Rendang, Karangasem regency, and is the largest Hindu temples in Bali. Pura Besakih is situated on the slope of Mount Agung, the concept is the supreme god's palace.

Pura Besakih is within about two hours drive from Denpasar or 2.5 hours from Bali's Ngurah Rai International Airport. Pura Besakih had the honor of the WHO as the world's cultural heritage which needs to be preserved.

This temple is estimated founded in the 17th century. Some big celebration was held at Temple of Panca Wali Krama (once every five years), Eka Dasa Ludra (once every 100 years) and Betara Turun Kabeh (Each Year). A small celebration in every temple at Pura Besakih is celebrated once every six months; according to the Balinese calendar system.

This temple complex consists of Penataran Agung Besakih Temple and 18 others small temple. Penataran Agung Temple is the biggest and there are three symbols of the universe called Tri Murti; Brahma as the Creator, Lord Vishnu as the maintainer or preserver and Shiva as the destroyer or transformer. These 18 others small are also included temple dedicated to the ancestors of the various clans, namely Pedarman Agung Temple.

Some facilities have been provided for the visitors such a wide parking space, food & beverage stall and souvenir shops.
